About Us

C.T.D.T.A
Christchurch Tap Dancing Teachers Association
Christchurch Tap Dancing Teachers Association was formed in 1960 by a group of Tap Teachers in Christchurch. The Society was formed to promote the love of dance amongst all – something we still foster today.
In the mid 1990’s Jazz was added to the syllabus as the times were changing and a lot of Tappers were now learning Jazz as well. The abbreviated CTDTA became more the name associated with the competitions. 2014 saw the introduction of Ballet to our Syllabus.. Today, CTDTA offer competitions in 3 genres, Tap, Jazz & Ballet, and have seen entries grow every year for the last seven years.
CTDTA is run solely by volunteers, they selflessly offer many hours to ensure the competitors are given these amazing opportunities. Overseas Adjudicators, who are prepared to share their knowledge by offering workshops at the end of the competitions means the dancers can benefit from international tuition without having left Christchurch.
CTDTA hold two competitions a year – In the 2nd week of the April School Holidays, and the second weekend of September. We receive entries from all around New Zealand and have even had overseas competitors.
