Conditions of the Christchurch Tap Dancing Teachers Association

 

1)STATUS

 a) These competitions are open only to amateurs. Amateur Status will be defined at the discretion of the executive committee.

 b) Professionals are not eligible

2) ADJUDICATOR

  1. No competitor, parent or teacher etc shall communicate with the adjudicator prior or during the festival. Only officials in the course of their duties.

  2. The adjudicator’s decision will be final.

 

3)ELIGIBILITY OF ENTRANTS

a) The committee may decline the entry of any competitor. The receiving of entries in good faith by the secretary does not apply to acceptance.

b) No competitor who has been taught dancing by the adjudicator at any time during the period of two years before these competitions is eligible to compete. (Summer schools, examination tuition etc exempt).

 

4) AGE LIMITS

  1. Where age is stated, this means the actual age of the competitor at the commencing date of the competitions

  2. Birth Certificates must be available if requested for competitors under 16 years of age unless one has already been produced at a prior competition of the Association.

 

5) ENTRIES

  1. Entries will not be accepted unless accompanied by fees in full plus administration fee. Entries are not confirmed until payment has been received.

  2. Competitors competing in these competitions do so at their own risk and only on these conditions will entries be accepted

  3. All duo and trio entries must be entered by one partner, but the entry must include names of the other partners

  4. Competitors are not allowed to dance the same routine in more than one class except NYP & Tiny Tots.

  5. There is no refund of entry fees.

 

6) ORDER OF PERFORMANCE

  1. Competitors name will appear in the Programme in the class and order in which they will compete

  2. Competitors must acquaint themselves with the timetable, check in via App and be ready to perform in numerical order of the Programme. Failure to do so leaves them ineligible to compete in this class

  3. Executive reserves the right to:

  4. Rearrange the order of performance as published

  5. Add classes, amalgamate, delete classes as entries dictate​​

 

7) TIME LIMITS

 Under 12 2 ½ Minutes

 12 & Over 3 minutes    

 Song & Dance  4 minutes

 TEAMS 5 minutes

 

8) NOVICES

a) A novice class is open to competitors who have never won a first place at any Festival in the class they have entered.

b) Only a novice competitor is permitted a second chance, but cannot be placed.

c) A novice competitor can choose to enter either the Novice OR Open class but are not able to enter both.

 

8a) TINY TOTS CLASS

The Tiny Tots class is a display only class (and is not judged) and is open to dancers under 6 years of age who have not won a novice section in that genre eg. if a dancer has previously won in a tap section, then they cannot enter that tap dance in the Tiny Tots class, however they could do a different genre e.g. jazz dance in the Tiny Tots if they were still a novice in that section.

Tiny Tots may repeat their dance in another class.

 

9) OPEN CLASSES

If a novice or restricted competitor wins an Open class at another society or association this automatically promotes the competitor to the Open section in the relevant class

 

10) CHAMPIONSHIPS

  1. A competitor cannot enter an Open Championship unless they have won a Restricted Championship. However, if no Restricted Championship is offered they may enter the Open Championship.

  2. To be eligible to dance in Championships, competitors must enter in at least two (2) solo classes in the relevant section.

  3. Championship dances may not be repeated in solo classes except for Ballet – which may repeat a dance.

  4. Tap Championship dances must include the rhythms specified and may be danced in any order

 

Under 12 years:      1 chorus of slow       2 choruses of buck/fast                                                              OR 1 chorus of slow      1 chorus of rhythm/medium    1 chorus of buck/fast 

 

  1. years & over: 1 chorus of slow      1 chorus of rhythm/medium    1 chorus of buck/fast 

 

11) DUOS, TRIOS AND TEAM

  1. If both competitors are not of the same class e.g. Novice, Open, the duo must dance in the higher section

  2. Competitors under 12 years of age may compete in Duos/Trios Any Age with different partners and not more than twice in the one age group with a different partner. They may also compete in teams Any Age section

 

12) MUSIC

All competitors please note:

 

All music will be required to be submitted via the CTDTA App. Details for this process will be advised ASAP after entries close.

All music will be played on official machines.  Official Operators will operate these.  All other machines will be prohibited.  It is every competitor’s responsibility to provide good quality recordings. 

 

Please have a USB or device available as a backup. (One track in MP3 format).  In the event of a music error there is an allowance for I-Pod or phone connection.

 

13) VIDEO, LIGHTING AND SOUND

The Association will not provide additional lighting or sound for items.

Video and any movie making machine will not be permitted unless by prior arrangement by the secretary.  

You can video your own child only in all Solo items through-out the competition.  For Duos/Trios or Teams it is the Teacher/Studio, or nominated representative of that studio that must video the item. No charge for videoing.

 

  UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES CAN YOU VIDEO ANY OTHER CHILD OR TEAM.

  THIS WILL RESULT IN DISQUALIFICATION OF YOUR OWN CHILD OR TEAM.

14) PROTESTS

Must be lodged in writing stating grounds on which it is based with the Secretary accompanied with $5.00 within one hour of the adjudicator’s award being announced.

The Protest Committee’s decision will be final.

 

15) PROMPTING

No prompting will be permitted in the Open sections

 

16) PRACTISING ON STAGE

Under no circumstances will practicing on the stage during a Festival be permitted without prior arrangement with the secretary.

 

17) BACKSTAGE AND DRESSING ROOMS

Only two dancers are to be in stage area at any one time, one on stage and the other waiting. Once dancers have completed their dance they must leave the Stage. All competitors must wear Tap Covers in waiting areas and dressing rooms. Teachers or parents in charge of the competitor shall be responsible for the conduct and decorum of same.

 

18) PERSONAL PROPERTY

The Association accepts no responsibility for music, properties or personal belongings left at the hall during the Festival.

 

19)  VENUE HEALTH & SAFETY

 

CTDTA ask you to please assist us and our venues with Health & Safety.

As a competitor, you are required to take all reasonable precautions for your own health and safety, and the health and safety of others. It is necessary for you to ensure there is no danger or fault in any equipment or props supplied or used by you, that may endanger the health and safety of you or others. If we as a committee, consider that props or equipment used or supplied by you, pose a safety risk to you or others, we reserve the right to restrict or prohibit their use.0 If you see any potential hazards or risks please let a Committee Member and/or Theatre Staff know immediately.

• Please respect the Venue.

• Follow the instructions of Committee and/or Theatre Staff in case of an emergency.

• Please keep all passageways clear and free of clutter.

• Dressing Rooms must be kept in a clean and tidy condition. Clean up your own rubbish and put in bins provided.

• NO playing on any of the Stairwells at the venue.

• PROPS, please keep these in the allocated storage area until needed.
